Following the Young OR18 Conference Hara Papachristou reviews the event for young OR professionals.

A couple of weeks ago I had the pleasure of organising the Simulation stream at the YoungOR 18 Conference at the University of Exeter on behalf of Lanner. The conference brings together professionals who have had less than 10 years’ experience in Operational Research to discuss the different areas and aspects of OR.

The Simulation stream attracted a large number of attendees, despite other streams taking place in parallel sessions. The stream’s keynote speaker, Lanner Consultant Steve Jones, giving a presentation on “Learning from Software Development” drew lot of attention and gave insight on how to improve the process of building models. WITNESS was featured in a number of presentations, one of which was given by John-Patrick Richardson from the National Nuclear Laboratory. To see WITNESS being referenced by other speakers is testament to its versatility and reputation.

It was great to meet with so many curious young professionals who wanted to find out more about WITNESS and they were all very impressed that WITNESS can support a wide range of applications. Overall I found the event incredibly interesting and hope that those who attended felt like they were able to take away a vast amount of information and inspiration.

Lanner plans on returning to the next YoungOR event so I hope to see many more of you there!

If you wish to discuss the event or Lanner’s presentation further, feel free to email me.
