Blogging from WinterSim, Tony Waller shares the highlights from Monday's session.

A great start to the conference with the choice of 18 different streams to pick from! Lots of interest in Optimization around classic simulation, lots of interest in high performance computing, lots of interest in more operational models and lots of interest in different levels of visualization!

One particular area that caught my attention today was a feed from data mining used alongside simulation. Model a process for sure – but at the same time understand what is leading to poor performance – i.e. don’t necessarily put a buffer in where a change in procedure would obviate the need. Common sense of course, but well worth remembering as part of the data analysis alongside the simulation model.

It was good to meet WITNESS customers too! Pictured below with me at the conference are Dr Jesus Jiminez from Texas State University and Dan Nottestad and Erin Murphy from 3M.
