Simulation applied to project IT resource requirements of new banking platform

Lanner, a provider of predictive simulation solutions proven to maximise performance and optimise resources, announces that Nationwide Building Society has won the 2012 WITNESS Project of the Year Award.

The award recognises the implementation excellence and commercial benefits achieved by Nationwide through applying WITNESS simulation software to model IT performance during the replacement of its core banking system.

As the first financial services organisation in the UK to replace their legacy system with the modern SAP for Banking platform, Nationwide used WITNESS to assess IT resources required to support the processing of real time and batched transactions. The modelling project allowed Nationwide to correctly size computing infrastructure requirements for the new platform while reducing of the risk of poor system performance during implementation.

David Wheeler, IT Services Simulation Modeller at Nationwide, said: “We have worked hard here at Nationwide to make this project a success throughout its implementation. WITNESS has been a key part of simulating processing performance and we have been able to benchmark system performance by comparing real world outcomes against those modelled. This has led us to confident and mature decision-making on our hardware requirements.”

David Jones, CEO, Lanner said: “We are very pleased to award the Lanner Project of Year 2012 to David Wheeler and the team at Nationwide. They have demonstrated that simulation can deliver a clear business contribution in terms of commercial benefit and reduced risk during the modernisation of legacy IT systems.”

“The WITNESS model has evolved with the project and is a great example of the benefits of combining simulation and IT operations knowledge. We particularly note David’s commitment to the technology and his confidence that it would benefit Nationwide has certainly been justified.”
