We recently have added an alternative licensing method to WITNESS which is definitely worth considering when deploying in a team or enterprise environment.

Predominantly, dongles along with license codes were the means by which WITNESS was licensed. While these will continue to be the case for those who like this option, we now have an alternative way using a server licensing manager.

The idea behind a license server is to act as a central pool of WITNESS licenses which are shared amongst many users. Usage may also be monitored. A license is requested as each users starts WITNESS. This allows WITNESS to be deployed to many desktops and a central pool of licenses shared amongst a team, department or enterprise.

For single machine deployments, a node-locked option is supported which ties the license to the workstation hardware (a local alternative to dongle).

The technology underpinning this functionality is supplied by Reprise Software www.reprisesoftware.com. The cool bit we have added on top is to allow your licenses to be automatically requested from within WITNESS.

So how is all this functionality made available?

Simply select the Reprise option during install (if you forgot to, don’t worry we can re-configure this within WITNESS now)

When WITNESS starts and no license can be located; select the “License Administration” button and either enter the location of the central license server or select the “Node Locked” option and request a license automatically using an activation code.

Note: Our support desk issues activation codes for the licenses you are entitled to.

WITNESS will restart automatically and you are good to go.
