WITNESS Laid Bare! Part 3 – To scale or not to scale?

The third in the series dispels the myth that simulation products must either model from an accurate physical perspective or from a totally abstract viewpoint. WITNESS began life as a simulation product focused on manufacturing industry and as such took a physical view without requiring the user to input detailed dimensions and adhere to strict physical accuracy. Rather WITNESS purely required the times to move through elements and capacities in terms of quantities rather than dimensions. This supported speedy modelling without the need for the production of detailed CAD drawings before simulation analysis could be undertaken.

Modern WITNESS has developed such that physical dimensions can now be defined to provide a realistic basis for a 3D representation and to support the representation of behaviours based upon size, distance and speed. This approach is optional, and importantly can be mixed with the simpler representation which has been a long standing strength of WITNESS.

Very powerful and flexible ‘path’ objects can now be used to model all instances of entities or resources which require moving over distances along a prescribed ‘route’.

Rather than dictating an approach to the model, WITNESS supports the way you want to work.
